Friends legend David Schwimmer makes 'equal pay' joke about co-star Courtney Cox at the BAFTAs

Comedy actor David Schwimmer had viewers laughing when he flew in to present a BAFTA TV Award.

Friends legend David, who is starring in the new British comedy drama Intelligence for Sky One, took to the stage with his co-star Nick Mohammed at the awards in London.

The pair quipped about the series that catapulted the American actor to international fame, and poked fun at Courtney Cox who played David's on-screen sister Monica Geller, joking that she had been paid more than the rest of the cast.

Nick made the audience gasp when he said straight-faced: "We all remember how diverse Friends was."

David Schwimmer appeared in the sitcom from 1994 to 2004 (Channel 4)

A deadpan David, who played Ross Geller in the long-running sitcom, replied: "Thank you, thank you. It was a groundbreaking show and half the cast were women.

"And I made sure we were all paid equally."

"Sorry, wasn't Courtney making more than the rest of you when you first started?" asked Nick.

"Yes that was a problem," David said dryly.

David is best known for his role as goofy paleontologist Ross in Friends, which ran for 10 years until 2004.

He was back in the news last year after an image of alleged thief bearing a striking resemblance to him went viral, and he later posted his own spoof denial video.

Stars sparkle on the red carpet at the BAFTAs

In Intelligence his character joins a newly formed cyber crime unit at GCHQ, the British government’s communication headquarters.
