Family, friends ‘devastated’ after sudden passing of doctor and former Paisley bowling club president

Tributes have been paid to a Renfrewshire doctor and a “very popular” former president of a Paisley bowling club.

Gordon Forrest took ill while at Hawkhead Bowling Club on Wednesday, May 10. Sadly, he later passed away at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Gordon was the gents’ president at the club in 2022 and Hawkhead committee members were keen to pay tribute to a respected individual who made a huge impact.

Club secretary Norrie Campbell told the Paisley Daily Express: “On the evening of May 10, immediate past president of Hawkhead Bowling Club, Dr Gordon Forrest, sadly passed away in the Royal Alexandra Hospital after becoming ill while in the club.

“Gordon was a very popular and respected member of the club and his passing came as a great shock to all.

“Apart from being an excellent bowler, Gordon served the club well on committee, which culminated in him being voted as gents’ president in 2022.

“This was a great honour for Gordon, as it was the year we belatedly celebrated our centenary due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

“He was a very popular president and represented the club admirably during his tenure.

“He was very friendly and relaxed in company and liked nothing better than greeting guests and spending time with
them.

“Gordon’s presence in the club will be greatly missed and our sympathies and condolences go to his family who have lost a lovely man.”

Gordon was a medical practitioner at the Ludovic medical practice and worked across its two sites in Johnstone and Linwood.

Assistant practice manager Lorraine Griffiths told the Paisley Daily Express that Gordon will be sorely missed by the staff at the practice.

She said: “We’re all devastated at the news of Gordon’s passing, absolutely devastated. We’re all still trying to get our heads round it. He was such a big figure at the practice.”

Gordon’s funeral will be held at 10am on Tuesday, May 30 in St Mark’s Church on Glasgow Road. From there, it will move to the Hurlet Crematorium at 12noon and then on to the Glynhill Hotel.
