Friends Fest is returning to Manchester this weekend - here's what to expect

A little slice of New York will land in Manchester this week, as Friends Fest returns to Heaton Park.

The huge festival will see iconic sets from the smash hit sitcom recreated for ticket-holders to explore.

You can find yourself hanging out in Joey and Chandler's apartment, lounging in Monica's purple living room, loitering in the corridor, and hanging out in their favourite coffee shop Central Perk.

Friends fans will also be able to recreate the iconic title sequence with colourful umbrellas, and attempt to 'PIVOOOTT' a sofa up a flight of stairs, Ross-style.

The event, which is presented by The Luna Cinema, has been a complete sell-out since it first visited Manchester in 2017, and this year is no different.

It will be taking over the heart of Heaton Park between August 2 and 18, and for those lucky enough to bag tickets, here's what you can expect.

What's new this year?

There are brand new photo opportunities this year, with four new scenarios to recreate.

You can have a go at being the floating heads from The One With The Late Thanksgiving, or recreate the wedding dress scene from The One With All The Wedding Dresses.

There are wigs and costumes to dress up in for the best possible selfie opportunities.

There'll also be a new cocktail bar alongside Friends-themed food stalls.

What food and drink is on offer?

There are always plenty of food and drink options themed around the hit comedy, all of which will spark serious nostalgia as well as an appetite.

At last year's event, food-loving Joey received a big nod with a pizza stall serving the 'Joey Special' of two pizzas.

Fans could also get a bar of Mockolate or raid Phoebe's Vegetarian Buffay - and of course you can grab a coffee at Central Perk.

Coupled with the addition of a new cocktail bar, come with an appetite.

There are no cashpoints on site but Friends Fest has advised that stalls will be accepting card payments.

What sets are there to see?

There is so much to see and do at Friends Fest that the hours will soon slip by.

Guided tours of Monica's apartment will get you up close to the purple walls and the iconic golden peephole.

At Joey and Chandler's apartments you can see the canoe that the duo used in place of furniture for a while, the table football table that swallowed Joey's baby birds, and the classic Barker loungers.

Ross's apartment - which used to belong to Ugly Naked Guy - will be recreated too, complete with Pottery Barn coffee table and a few dinosaur statues.

You can also visit Central Perk, where last year a Phoebe Buffay tribute act serenaded visitors.

How long does it take to see everything?

Tickets come with an allotted start time, and it's recommended you aim to be on site at least 15 minutes before that - but your ticket will gain you entry to Friends Fest at any time on your chosen day if you want to head down earlier.

The start time is for your guided set tour of the apartments, which takes around 30 minutes - before and after that, you're free to explore the rest of the Friends-themed experiences on site.

Friends Fest recommends you allow two to two-and-a-half hours for your visit.

The site will close at 8pm between Sundays and Wednesdays, and 9.30pm on Thursdays to Saturdays.

How do I get there?

The Friends Fest site is close to Heaton Park's boating lake, right in the heart of the huge park.

Your closest tram stop will be Heaton Park, from which you can enter the park through the Station Gate entrance, though Bowker Vale is also reachable on foot.

Although public transport is the advised way to get to Friends Fest, there is limited (charged) parking at Heaton Park - use the postcode M25 0DL and enter through the Sheepfoot Lane entrance.

There are also several bus services that serve the area.

What's the weather forecast?

Remember the one where they all went to Barbados and couldn't leave the hotel because of the rain?

You can expect similar conditions in Manchester over the next week, with the showers continuing on-and-off over the next week.

There are sunny spells expected for opening weekend at least, with temperatures reaching a very un-August high of 21C.
