Friends fans outraged at decision to make James Corden host of the reunion special

Friends fans were gobsmacked on Wednesday when they discovered James Corden was to be the celebrity host of the eagerly anticipated reunion special.

As the sneak peek trailer broke for the show, many fans were outraged to discover that the Gavin & Stacey star was tasked with talking to the star cast Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer.

While the Brit's involvement in the show was announced days earlier, fans were quick to flock to social media on Wednesday to let their feelings known when they found out just what part he will play.

One user on Twitter wrote: "I don't like the fact that James Corden hosted the #FriendsReunion. Could've chosen someone else who had a deeper connection with the friends cast. Maybe Ellen idk. But not James Corden."

Another said: "Sorry but I literally despise James Corden for worming his way into the Friends Reunion stop needing to be everywhere."

Many others took to the social media platform to share amusing gifs and memes to showcase their disgust at the decision.

There was a lot of suggestion that the person fronting the show should have been someone who had a part to play in the original series, with the likes of Paul Rudd being called for.

However, the two-minute trailer did get others excited for its airing. It showcased several scenes that fans will see when it eventually hits our screens on 27 May on HBO Max.

In several instances, the stars go on to re-enact some of the sitcom's most quotable moments, with Lisa Kudrow screaming Phoebe's famous line: "Oh my eyes, my eyes!"

Jennifer Aniston even admits that the producer of a show she was working on when she auditioned for Friends told her: "That show's not going to make you a star."

Friends ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.
