Friends fans frenzy after Matthew Perry confirms reunion will be filmed in March

Matthew Perry has sent Friends fans into a frenzy by confirming that a highly-anticipated reunion of the hit show has been rescheduled to March.

The special one-off show was due to start filming in August, with the original cast of Perry and co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer being involved.

It had been due to launch with the HBO Max streaming service in May, before Hollywood production was halted but filming was delayed until August before the coronavirus pandemic postponed it, with no date in the diary.

Perry, who plays the smart-mouthed Chandler, tweeted on Thursday evening: "Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March.

"Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that's the way I like it!"

The tweet has already received more than 50,000 likes and 2,000 replies from excited fans.

Filming for the Friends special will take place on the show's original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank, California.

When the filming was postponed in August, Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman suggested the 'seventh' cast member of the hit show – the live studio audience - was the reason the reunion special has yet to be filmed.

Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox were back together for the 72nd annual Emmy Awards (ABC)

Marta told Entertainment Tonight: "We all want it to happen. We just have to wait until it is safe.

“This is a show that is not scripted, but this is the way the show works – we are going to need a live audience.

“Even if we socially distance that live audience, it really is a huge part of what Friends is... We can not do it without them.

"Everyone is all in and we are just waiting for that time when it feels connected to bring in a live audience."

Friends ran for 10 seasons from 1994 and remains one of the most popular shows on TV.
