Friends devastated as ‘amazing’ dad, 26, dies in Boxing Day stabbing at pub

Touching tributes have been paid to a 26-year-old "amazing" dad who was stabbed to death at a pub on Boxing Day.

Friends of the man, named locally as Coley Byrne, revealed their disbelief and heartbreak, reports Yorkshire Live.

Police said the incident took place at the Gypsy Queen pub in Sheffield on Monday at around 10pm.

Locals said they heard sounds of screaming and glass breaking in the car park shortly before officers arrived.

Over a dozen police squad cars were then scrambled the pub, on Drake House Lane, in Beighton, Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed a man died after being rushed to hospital with stab wounds.

Pals of Coley took to social media to pay tribute.

Kyle Rayworth wrote: "Still can’t believe it. your gunna missed mate such a cruel world we live in."

Nicole Sheldon said: "I literally have no words! Truly heartbreaking and devastating! My heart goes out to your family and babies.

"You will be reunited with your Brad now! Taken way too soon rest in peace Coley Byrne you’ll be missed so much by so many."

One friend wrote: "Waking up this morning to find out you have passed has devastated me.

"One of the realists [sic] men I have had the pleasure of calling my friend always smiling always chilling and was always good to see your face.

"Heaven has gained an amazing man it's just breaking that your time wasn't done on earth you was taken too soon my brother.

Another pal added: "Since we was kids u always been by my side.

"You did anything for me I just want it to be over this bad nightmare we're in.

"I will forever miss you and I will never ever forget u. I don't ever think I'm going to come to terms with what I have seen and what has happened tonight."

She later added: "I'm sorry we couldn't save u we did everything we could.

"I am never going to get it out my head I just feel so sorry I wish we could have done more."

Flowers were laid at the pub following the news of Coley's death.

Another friend posted a picture online of Mr Byrne and said: "What a good guy", before adding: "We had some laughs."

Among the many other tributes to Mr Byrne he was described as a "top guy" and a "lovely lad" by one woman saying that she was his neighbour.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the stabbing and are appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Detectives from South Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses with information. DCI Mick Hakin, the officer leading the investigation, said: "We are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the Gypsy Queen at the time and who may have seen anything that can help us determine exactly what happened which led to the death of a young man."
