Friends creator says revival is 'never happening' but reveals if Ross and Rachel stay together

Friends co-creator David Crane has waded in on whether Ross and Rachel stayed together years after the events depicted in the sitcom's finale.

The writer, who devised the series alongside Marta Kauffman, was speaking on a panel comprised of comedy showrunners when he was asked whether the couple - played by David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston - managed to stay together in the long run.

His answer may please fans. He said: “Yes. Come on, they worked really hard, ten years.”

His comments came after Crane shared some news that will most certainly not make Friends fans happy; he poured water on any chance of a possible revival series, stating bluntly: “[It's] never happening.”

“Never. We did it! It's done,” he continued. “That's why you don't want to see more of it because it's all a happy ending."

Several comedy shows have enjoyed a revival in recent years, most notably Will & Grace and Roseanne which was swiftly cancelled by ABC following its lead star Roseanne Barr's racist comments on social media.

All ten seasons of Friends were added to Netflix last December, following which many millennials who were too young to watch it the first time around expressed reservations about the beloved sitcom's storylines, describing it as transphobic, homophobic and sexist.

The series, which also stars Courtney Cox, Matt Le Blanc, Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry, ended in 2004.
