Friends cast surprise James Corden on The Late Late Show with impromptu Carpool Karaoke

The cast of Friends surprised fans as they performed the show's iconic theme during a surprise 'Carpool Karaoke' on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The presenter, 42, hosted the Friends reunion special last month - and gave his viewers more behind the scenes shots with the six cast members on his talk show on Wednesday night.

The segment began with James driving a cart around the Warner Bros lot, picking up David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry as they reflected on the reunion.

With the scene set, James couldn’t help but kick-off an impromptu Carpool Karaoke as he turned on the world's most famous theme song, I’ll Be There For You by The Rembrandts.

James and the entire cast joyously sang along with the tune, which served as the title music for Friends’ 10 season run.

Though there was some controversy surrounding the number of claps after the opening line - with three doing four claps, with the other three doing five.

Jennifer Aniston and Matt Le Blanc appeared in jovial spirits as they sang I'll Be The For You by The Rembrandts (The Late Late Show)

After finishing the song, Courteney, who played Monica Gellar, excitedly said: “I’ve always wanted to do Carpool Karaoke” while Matthew, who played Chandler Bing, added: “that tune’s catchy”.

The segment also saw James take a tour around the iconic Friends set, visiting Central Perk coffee shop, Chandler and Joey’s apartment as well as Rachel and Monica’s place.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Friends : The Reunion had become Sky One’s most-watched show with a whopping 5.3million viewers tuning in.

It is second only to the final series of Game of Thrones for the biggest audience across Sky’s portfolio of entertainment channels.

Friends: The Reunion aired on May 27 and saw the original cast returning to the original set of the show for the first time since they finished their 10-year run in 2004.

Although the actors weren't in character for the reunion, they did revisit some memories from the show.

But everyone was only talking about one thing after it, at least in Ireland - how much Matt LeBlanc looked like everyone's uncle.
