Watch as friends and family surprise newlyweds with car parade after Barrhead ceremony

Friends and family members surprised a pair of newlyweds by staging a car parade outside the wedding venue - after being left unable to attend the ceremony due to the coronavirus restrictions.

The heartwarming parade took place outside the Dalmeny Park House Hotel in Barrhead on Saturday after Kevin Daly and partner Jaime, who live in Mossend in North Lanarkshire, had tied the knot.

Neither the bride nor the groom had the faintest idea about the parade, which was organised by the Maid of Honour and saw friends and family decorate their cars with balloons for the occasion - with the Maid of Honour's father even dressing up as Dracula with the wedding happening on Halloween.

Speaking about the parade, Jaime's auntie, Anne Russell told Glasgow Live: "It made the day so special for them. It was myself that came up with the idea but it was actually the Maid Of Honour Laura Fraser who organised it as she had everyone's contact details.

"She invited all their closest friends along and asked them to decorate their cars and just beep their horns and make a big fuss.

"It was a total surprise for Jaime and her husband Kevin. They had absolutely no idea. They just thought they were going outside the hotel to get a group photograph taken.

"Just after the ceremony we went outside and then all the cars arrived and drove round the drive in front of the hotel. The Maid of Honour's father was dressed as Dracula and he got out the car to say he was looking for his bride! People brought their dogs along too. It was just lovely".

Jaime and partner Kevin, who have been together for 10 years, decided to go ahead with the wedding following the birth of their second child.

Anne added: "Jaime had a four-week old baby and she managed to organise this lockdown wedding with her four-week-old and a three-year-old. Her and her partner have been together for 10 years and they arranged the wedding maybe about a year of two ago and they decided just to go ahead with it because they had the baby. She did incredibly well".

And the car parade made the lockdown wedding extra special for Jaime, who had to undertake the unfortunate task of narrowing down the list of attendees at her wedding to just 18 people from an original guest list of over 100 friends and family.

"My niece was crying. She was so upset as the wedding was originally supposed to be for over 100 guests, then she had to narrow it down to the closest members of family - only 18 in total. So most of the people that took part were school friends, life-long friends," Anne said.

"Everyone absolutely loved it and all the people that turned up in the car parade made such a big effort. Most of them come from Airdrie so they really did go out of their way.

"My niece said it was the highlight of her day. The fact it was a lockdown wedding, it was a wonderful day but the car parade just made it extra special for them. She was blown away by it."

What a brilliant idea!

We wish Jaime and Kevin all the best!
