Glasgow cancer dad overwhelmed as family and friends line street to welcome him home

The friends and family of a Glasgow man took to the streets to celebrate his return from the Beatson.

Iain Laidlaw wasn't able to ring the 'end of treatment bell' due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak but was given his very own bell to ring when he arrived home to Glasgow.

The father-of-two was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer at the beginning of December and started treatment the day before Christmas Eve.

Less than four months later, his intensive treatment at the Beatson came to an end.

He said: "Not exactly the way I envisaged it thanks to covid-19 but I got to do this today! Totally contactless metaphorical ringing of the Beatson bell.

"Hopefully for a very long time! Thank you to my rock Hayley and my family and all the other people who gave the strength and support to get through this."

To mark the momentous occasion, friends and family lined the street clapping and ringing their own bells at a safe distance from each other.

An emotional video of the moment Iain pulled into his street shows the unsuspecting dad becoming overwhelmed as he sees the crowds outside his house.

What an incredible gesture!
