'Friendly and busy' Sandwich Sandwich hits the spot for Sammies award judges

A Bristol sandwich business – which has been serving up sarnies for three decades – has won a top industry award.

Sandwich Sandwich picked up a gold award in the Independent Sandwich Retailer of the Year category at the British Sandwich and Food to Go Association national awards.

The Baldwin Street store won the award on a variety of aspects including service, eating experience, product range, hygiene and cleanliness.

The family-run Sandwich Sandwich has been a staple in the west-country city for more than 30 years and is well known for its wide selection of high-quality home-made sandwiches.

Situated in the heart of Bristol the shop’s extensive menu – retailing at around £4 – largely comes from locally sourced local ingredients.

Chef Nick Kleiner and his wife, Anita originally ran Cotham Sandwich Co before transforming the shop into Sandwich Sandwich. There are now four Sandwich Sandwich shops across Bristol.

In addition to the Baldwin Street flagship store, Temple Way, Clifton and Cotham Hill all boast Sandwich Sandwich shops hugely popular with locals and commuters.

The awards – also known as the Sammies – are open to all large and small businesses in the sandwich and food-to-go industry.

Judges touring the country as part of the awards said Sandwich Sandwich was “friendly and busy” and the recipes and combination of ingredients offered were “spot on”. They said service was quick and professional and staff showed great knowledge of the sandwiches on offer.

Chef Nick Kleiner said: “It’s great to be recognised with a national award.

“Sandwich Sandwich is a Bristol institution but to be recognised nationally is such a wonderful accolade for our family-run business.”
