Friend of Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe scatters ashes in twisted Lanzarote ceremony

The Yorkshire Ripper's dying wish to have his ashes scattered have been fulfilled in a twisted ceremony.

A friend of vile Peter Sutcliffe, who died with Covid at the age of 74 in November 2020, travelled to Lanzarote to sprinkle his remains off the Spanish island.

She travelled to the popular Canary Island to carry out the weird ritual near Playa de los Pocillos, which is popular with British tourists.

It comes after Sutcliffe, who killed 13 women and attempted to murder seven more, ask her to scatter his monstrous remains "somewhere nice and sunny" in his last and lonely moments.

His friend, a regular visitor to Sutcliffe at the prison, kept a jar of his ashes on her mantelpiece before jetting off to Lanzarote on holiday to fulfil his request, The Sun reports.

Sutcliffe was arrested in January 1981 after the biggest manhunt in British police history.

But the former lorry driver asked his friend to pick a spot where his remains would be in a “better and happier place”.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, said: “I made a promise to Peter to scatter his ashes somewhere nice and sunny while I was on my travels.

“I know people will think it is appalling, but as far as I’m concerned I was carrying out the wishes of a dying old man.

“He wanted to be in a better and happier place."
