Friday's recap: Cavaliers 114, Bulls 108

Nov. 01--The summary

Derrick Rose scored 20 points in the Bulls' 114-108 overtime loss to the Cavaliers but didn't appear in the fourth quarter or overtime Friday night after trying to play through a sprained left ankle he suffered in the second quarter of the home opener at the United Center.

LeBron James took over in overtime, scoring the Cavaliers' first eight points. James finished with 36, while Kirk Hinrich matched Rose for Bulls' honors after scoring eight huge points late in the fourth.

Afterward, Rose called his injury minor: "I'm walking around so I think everyone can breathe."

Turning point

There were two: Rose retreated to the locker room for the fourth quarter and overtime after succumbing to the left ankle sprain he suffered in the second quarter. And, after a passive fourth quarter, LeBron James scored on a three-point play 17 seconds into the extra session, the first of eight straight points for him.

Tribune player of game

James: He did everything but drive the Cavaliers' team bus to the airport. And maybe he did that.

Big number

10 -- Cavaliers rebounding advantage over the Bulls (52-42). This led to a 22-14 edge in second-chance points.

The quote

"We got humbled. But we'll see them again." -- Taj Gibson

The quote II

"Every game against them is going to be high expectation and an opportunity for both teams to make a statement and gain ground on each other. That's where we see it." -- Bulls forward Pau Gasol
