NHS board declares ‘code black’ as cancer treatments cancelled in full-blown crisis

The highest risk level has been declared at NHS Lanarkshire (Wishaw Press)

Cancer treatments are being cancelled at a major health board due to unprecedented pressures in the health service.

NHS Lanarkshire also confirmed to staff the organisation has moved to code “black” - the highest risk level.

The staff email stated: The safety of our patients and staff is our top priority and we are working through short and medium term actions to increase staffing and also improve the flow of patients out of hospital.

"The military are providing additional support within our hospitals from today (Wednesday).

"Unfortunately, the current pressures mean we are having to further stand down elective (planned) procedures including some cancer procedures, which we will reschedule as soon as possible.”

Greenkeeper at one of Scotland’s top golf clubs awarded £13k after bullying claims

A greenkeeper has won an unfair dismissal claim against one of Scotland’s top golf clubs.

It comes amid allegations of a “culture of bullying and harassment” at £815-a-year Prestonfield Golf Club.

John Kelly was shown “utter disregard” when he was forced out of the post he loved for 12 years, an employment tribunal heard.

The 53-year-old was subjected to a vindictive campaign by the club’s captain Ian Cowan, who told him: “Do what you are f***ing told.”

Alec Baldwin accidentally shoots woman dead after prop gun misfires on film set

Alec Baldwin has been named as the person who accidentally discharged a prop firearm that killed one and injured another on a movie set.

Santa Fe authorities confirmed the news after the incident took place on Thursday, reports the Mirror.

Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to a hospital in Albuquerque on Thursday with gunshot wounds to the stomach.

The director of the film, Joel Souza, is also said to have been injured after being hit in the shoulder.

Ayr explosion mother and son in critical condition fighting for life in hospital

A mother and son injured in the horror explosion in Ayr on Monday are currently fighting for their lives in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Police today confirmed that 43-year-old Marion Ferguson and her 16-year-old son are in critical condition in hospital .

Father William Ferguson, 47, is currently in a stable condition in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, as is his 11-year-old son in the Royal Hospital for sick children.

Investigators are currently said to be keeping an "open mind" into what caused the horrific blast as a multi-agency investigation is continuing to establish the cause of the explosion at Gorse Park.

Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid advisory group warns of ‘risks’ posed by Glasgow hosting COP26

The Scottish Government’s Covid advisory group has flagged up the “potential scale of risks” from Glasgow hosting COP26.

Experts also warned of the “pressure” the international climate crisis event could place on Scotland’s precarious grip on controlling the virus.

Concerns exist that high covid levels and a sluggish uptake in booster jabs could put the NHS under unprecedented strain in the winter.

The delicate situation is complicated by the prospect of tens of thousands of people flocking to Glasgow later this month for COP26 .

If the gathering results in covid cases skyrocketing, there are fears coronavirus restrictions may have to be reimposed.
