Unreported World
7.30pm, Channel 4
For young west Africans who show promise on the football field, a bright future abroad beckons. As this report from Cameroon by Ade Adepitan demonstrates, however, these dreams are ripe for exploitation by bogus agents, who charge thousands of young footballers for passage and connections. The players often wind up marooned: no professional club will sign a player whose paperwork is not in order. A former athlete himself, Adepitan is understandably outraged at this exploitation of hope. Andrew Mueller
Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD
8pm, Channel 4
The Inhumans is a Marvel movie about weaponised beings due in 2019, and Agents Of SHIELD has spent the back half of its second season diligently laying out a narrative track toward it. Tonight, Skye, the hacker who recently manifested seismic powers, wakes up in an unsettlingly serene spa for those eager to embrace the Inhuman lifestyle. Meanwhile, SHIELD’s gruff new top dog Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) is pushing an anti-Coulson agenda. Graeme Virtue
Secrets Of Great British Castles
8pm, Channel 5
This week, it’s a trip north of the border for historian Dan Jones. The destination? Stirling Castle, balanced on a volcanic crag overlooking the river Forth and providing a gateway to the Highlands. There’s been fortification on the site since Alexander I in the 12th century, and it has proved a strategic battleground for both the independence and unification of Scotland. Within its imposing walls there has been treachery, murder, adultery and even, within James IV’s Renaissance court, a spot of alchemy. Ben Arnold
Iceland – Land Of Ice And Fire: Natural World
9pm, BBC2
A year on the crisp, shifting terrain of Iceland, capturing how rural life means never quite taming animals or the land itself. Hardy, shaggy horses are toughened up by letting them run free in the mountains, before herding them down, unbroken, to a chaotic market, while eider ducks are helped along, but not quite farmed, for their down. Just when this film’s seascapes and sunsets threaten to get sleepy, unreal things happen, not least a volcanic eruption that shows life here is uncertain as well as unforgiving. Jack Seale
Slow Train Through Africa With Griff Rhys Jones
9pm, ITV
This week, Griff takes the “slow” element of his journey to new extremes when he travels through Zambia and Zimbabwe and experiences a 33-hour delay. Once on board the train, he tries to sip a cup of tea but finds it a rocky ride. Armed with a wry smile and a loose grasp of the local currency, he heads to a bar in Kapiri Mposhi and parts with enough cash for a bucketful of booze, which makes him popular with the locals. ANZAC Girls
9pm, More4
It turns out the first world war was one big flirting opportunity. At least it was according to this enjoyably soapy Aussie import. Five young nurses arrive in Egypt in 1915 to aid the war effort. They soon realise the horrific wounds and looming threat of doom are of secondary importance to limpidly gazing into a major’s eyes as he moves in for a snog. With all the doomed youth, persistent coughs and talk of an invasion, it’s hard to imagine any of them making it out alive. Julia Raeside
Longmire
9pm, 5USA
The modern western returns, with Walt on the hunt for Branch’s would-be murderer. The victim is able to name the perpetrator but there’s an inconvenient caveat: the insistence he was shot by a dead man, a theory that Walt grittily refuses to discount. If you ever need to encapsulate Walt’s unyielding disposition into a single soundbite, his response at an emergency clinic packs his persona into a handy nutshell. So Walt, why didn’t you call 911 after discovering a bullet-peppered Branch? “I am 911.” Mark Jones
