Planet Ice
2pm, Eden
New French-Canadian co-production exploring nature’s greatest glaciers and the challenges threatening their futures. Episode one of four takes us to the French Alps, where increased water flow on the ice and shrinking glaciers indicate a climate crisis, but what do the glaciologists on the ground make of it all? There are stunning visuals and inconvenient truths aplenty, but with key dialogue subtitled from le Français and lots of climatological concepts to grasp, only the most fervent ecologists will be hooked. MOTD Live – FA Cup Second Round: Hartlepool United v Blyth Spartans
7.30pm, BBC2
All the makings of a proper cup tie here: a local derby between an up-for-it non-league outfit and a League Two side desperately out of sorts. Hartlepool remain favourites to reach the third round, but will face a contest against Evo-Stik Premier side Spartans, who have already knocked out Altrincham, a team two tiers above them on the league pyramid. Dan Walker hosts; an FA Cup edition of Final Score follows on Sunday. Gwilym Mumford
Karajan’s Myth And Magic
7.30pm, BBC4
Herbert von Karajan is one of the most recognised names in modern classical and this profile does an engaging job of explaining why. The Austrian conductor, who died in 1989, spent 35 years conducting the Berlin Philharmonic, but seemed to spend as much time indulging such playboy pursuits as flying his own plane and captaining his own yacht. Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD
8pm, Channel 4
All things Hydra are placed on the back burner this week, but the resultant episode, The Writing On The Wall, is a pacy treat. The title is a far from oblique reference to the alien scribblings the team have been investigating. The discovery of murder victims branded with that very script leads to a Project Tahiti-themed trip down memory lane for Coulson (Clark Gregg), while Ward (Brett Dalton) continues his plotting. HJD
I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!
9pm, ITV
This round of bushtucker trials, surprised tears and exhausted tantrums is almost over. We’re only two days away from the final, and at least one camper is facing elimination. For those left behind, the hot showers they so desire remain tantalising, and they have the usual activities – plus no doubt a few surprises – to face up to as they prepare for the final coronation. Ant and Dec round up the highs and lows of the past 24 hours of the celebrity survival challenge. Bim Adewunmi
Ben Fogle: New Lives In The Wild
9pm, Channel 5
Twins Bill and Bob Stone are Ben Fogle’s hosts this week, and after being in a witness protection scheme, they can’t reveal the exact location of their secure compound. As ever, Fogle chortles his way through, joshing that he was dreaming of “aliens coming down and giving me rectal probes, haw haw haw” after a night in a cave. Watching Bill do his first skydive in 40 years is a delight. Hannah Verdier
The Story Of Funk: One Nation Under A Groove
9pm, BBC4
As attested in this righteous doc, funk is a “state of mind”, it is “unapologetic blackness”, it is the “rhythm of the one”. Sly & The Family Stone’s Larry Graham, seminal brassman Fred Wesley and George Clinton discuss funk from its birth, identified as James Brown’s Cold Sweat, through to its later mutations, disco and hip-hop. Followed by The Genius Of Funk (10pm), featuring highlights from the BBC archives. Ali Catterall
House Of Lies
10pm, Sky Atlantic
Don Cheadle’s slick, smart comedy vehicle is one of the more unsung treasures of Sky Atlantic, with his scheming operator Marty a sort of conman-cum-Robin Hood in the corporate world. Tonight, he’s making moves on McClintock Media, seeking to oust Marissa’s siblings from the board. He enlists the help of billionaire Julian Zannino, who has a rather intimate connection with Marissa of his own. Still, at heart, Marty finds himself lonely and reaches out to Monica, who brings both home truths and comfort. David Stubbs
