CLASHANISKA is ripe for compensation after a near miss over course and distance last time in the MJ Church Contracting Handicap (Div II) (1.45) at Bath.
Punters made the daughter of Dark Angel the 6-4 favourite to mark her debut for Adrian Wintle with a win here nine days ago. The punt nearly came off as Clashaniska finished a neck second to Amasova, with this afternoon’s rivals Lady Mander (third) and More Than Likely (sixth) in behind.
But that doesn’t tell the whole story – Clashaniska was the only horse from the podium finishers who did her running from the back. Rain-softened ground here won’t be a problem and a 1lb nudge up the weights shouldn’t be enough to prevent David Probert’s mount from going one better.
At Catterick Bridge, GOLD RING, beaten in two starts since a course-and-distance success at the start of last month, has plenty going for him in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap (6.28). It’s likely the ground was too quick at Thirsk on his penultimate start, while Andrew Breslin’s partner was too keen back at a mile and a half at Newcastle last time. Back up in distance and with cut in the ground, a better showing is expected here.
