Friday night lights in Marseille for Ireland's 6 Nations kick off

Marseille will be the setting for the 2024 Guinness Six Nations opener - with Ireland providing the opposition to hosts France.

For the first time, Les Bleus will play their championship games outside Paris next year.

With Stade de France off limits due to preparations taking place for the Olympics, France are taking their home games out of the capital and the Stade Velodrome, with a capacity of 67,394, will host the mouth-watering opener.

The sides produced a dramatic encounter at the Aviva Stadium in February, with Ireland emerging triumphant before going on to win the Grand Slam for the third time.

They could face each other in the quarter-finals of France 2023 in October but they will definitely do so on Friday, February 2 next year to kick off the 2024 championship.

The game will have a 8pm kick-off.

France will also be at home to Italy in Lille on February 25 and to England in Lyon on March 16 in the final game of the campaign.

Ireland's Six Nations fixtures:

Friday, 2nd February: France v Ireland (8pm)

Sunday, 11th February: Ireland v Italy (3pm)

Saturday, 24th February: Ireland v Wales (2:15pm)

Saturday, 9th March: England v Ireland (4:45pm)

Saturday, March 16th: Ireland v Scotland (4:45pm)
