Friday Night Lights highlighted by clash of Steelers rookies

Sticking with tradition is what the Pittsburgh Steelers do. And so as is tradition, the Steelers loaded up on school buses and headed to Latrobe Memorial Stadium on Friday night for their annual Friday Night Lights even.

More than 10,000 fans showed up to meet the players and watch them go through their drills under the lights. The excitement is always amped up a bit from a typical training camp practice.

And the stars of the night were two rookies who put on a show during back-on-backers. This is the drill fans and players love the most and get everyone fired up. On Friday night, head coach Mike Tomlin decided to showcase two of his top rookies in the drill.

Steelers writer Joe Rutter reported on Twitter the Tomlin pitted linebacker Devin Bush Jr. and running back Benny Snell Jr. against each other nearly a dozen times in the drill on Friday night.

We all understand why Bush is being featured. This young man is going to be a Week One starter at inside linebacker and with his athleticism won’t leave the field much. But it’s great to see Tomlin pushing Snell so hard. You have to hope Tomlin has plans for him this season as more than just a third-string back.
