Friday Night Dinner's creator announces season six is the last after Paul Ritter's death

Friday Night Dinner's creator Robert Popper announced that season six will be the last following Paul Ritter's death.

The actor played father Martin Goodman in the series and died aged 54 in April from a brain tumour.

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old creator felt like the last episode - where fans found out Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny's girlfriends (Tom Rosenthal) were pregnant - finished on a high note.

Rob revealed: "It wasn't, actually. I never really know until I start. I have all my ideas and I have my board up on a wall, but I never really know, until I start an episode, what it's going to be about.

"But I did think halfway through it would be great if they both brought girls round, and then I thought that one of them was pregnant and then 'oh, what happens if they're both pregnant?' So I thought that was good."

He continued to LadBible : "And then, yeah, I was thinking this will be the end because I didn't want to do a series where they had kids and babies, and Jim would have seven dogs, also, like, the world's weirdest dog that you couldn't find seven of."

A special of the series is airing on Friday, May 28, to celebrate the show's 10th anniversary.

There will be a one-off special airing this Friday (Channel 4)

In Paul's final interview before his death, the late star discussed how the Channel 4 comedy had been the highlight of his career.

Despite being very sick as he underwent treatment for a brain tumour, Ritter was determined to be part of next week's documentary which celebrates the hit show's 10th anniversary.

“I’d be nothing without him,” he laughed, in reference to his character Martin Goodman.

“Seriously. I mean it was the great career gift. In terms of interesting parts, he’s been absolutely everything to me, and I have loved playing him. I’ve loved all the extraordinary scenes we do."
