Friday Night Dinner return confirmed as cast members post rude snap ahead of series six

Friday Night Dinner’s return has been confirmed with a very rude snap from stars Tom Rosenthal and Simon Bird.

The hit comedy stars Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter, Simon and Tom as a Jewish family who get together every Friday for a meal.

While there had been concern about the show's future, Tom, who plays Jonny Goodman, has put our fears to rest with a hilarious Instagram post confirming he will be back on our screens soon enough.

In a cheeky snap with co-star Simon, the pair flick off someone to the left of the camera and pull faces.

Tom, 32, captioned the picture: “Friday Night Dinner series six.”

Channel 4's head of comedy Fiona McDermott reassured fans last week the comedy will be back, and soon.

She told LADbible: "We're delighted that audiences love Friday Night Dinner as much as we do at Channel 4, and are thrilled that it will be returning.

"It's always brilliant when audiences for a show grow over time and we're thrilled that more and more people are falling in love with the Goodmans."

The dinner is often interrupted by various incidents or people, including their odd neighbour Jim Bell and 'Auntie Val', played by Tracy-Ann Oberman.

Back in October, show creator Robert Popper revealed filming had begun for season six, sharing a picture of a clapperboard on Twitter.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to exploring new avenues with series 6. Inspector de Vries (Paul) will still be working on the Rynsburger case, but this time he's joined by new partner-in-crime, Mees Janssen(Tom), fresh out of Rotterdam Police Academy.

"Eva de Bruin (Tamsin) is now trying to regain control of her pharmaceutical company, after an aggressive takeover-bid by the always-cunning Sem Teuling (Simon).

"But can 'Vos' (Mark Heap) and his faithful dog, 'de Welson' save the day?
