Dramatic aerial footage shows extent of flooding in Scots town as river breaks its banks

A local man in Dumfries captured shocking drone footage of the flooding of the River Nith.

Footage showed fast-moving water close to submerging some trees after the river overflowed its banks and into the surrounding area, encircling homes and businesses.

The Whitesands area shown in the video were closed off by emergency services.

COP26 'superglue' warning as police are told protesters will try to stick themselves to officers

Climate change protestors are set to descend on Glasgow (PA)

Frontline staff have been warned to avoid shaking the hands of protestors in fear that demonstrators will attempt to superglue themselves to others.

It follows the warning FM Nicola Sturgeon issued to climate activists bent on causing chaos when the two-week climate summit starts on Sunday.

A source said: "Protestors have used superglue in the past to attach themselves to things.

"But officers were briefed on things they should watch out over the next fortnight and it included protesters trying to glue themselves to cops."

Cops raid controversial Scots vet practice owned by man linked to gangland feud

Police conducted a raid of a veterinarian office in Strathaven amid a probe into owner Scott Bennett who has been associated with drug running and gangland feuds.

Animal welfare bodies accompanied investigators.

Bennett's home was also raided as officials examined its kennels complex which has been used to trade pups.

Local officials declared the flooding in Hawick a major incident yesterday.

Flooding in the Borders town could affect up to 500 properties in the Borders town, according to the local authority's flood team.

Multiple agencies led by the police, including the fire service, council and NHS Borders are working to evacuate buildings.

DWP makes new change to Universal Credit which will help claimants receive consistent payments

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) (PA)

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) made changes to its processes that allows the Universal Credit system to automatically identifies claimants who receive a second monthly salary payment in one benefit assessment period.

The system change should ensure people receive more consistent benefit payments.
