FRESNO, Calif. _ A Fresno County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a shooting late Tuesday morning in rural northeast Fresno County.
The injured deputy is receiving medical aid, according to Tony Botti, spokesman with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. The condition or identity of the deputy has not been released, but Botti said Sheriff Margaret Mims was with the deputy at Community Regional Medical Center and "early news is that the deputy's condition is encouraging."
Botti said the deputy was the only person injured.
The shooting happened on Quail Springs Lane in a rural area near Tollhouse just after 11 a.m.
Law enforcement officers were still searching for the gunman and no arrests have been made. A wide manhunt was underway in the area of the shooting.
A helicopter landed in the area to whisk the injured deputy away. He was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, landing on the rooftop around 12:30 p.m.
No other information was immediately available.
