The ceremonies for Ohio State football newcomers shedding their black stripes as a right of passage towards “officially” becoming a part of the program continued on Wednesday.
We had two offensive linemen receive the honor a day prior, and that was followed up with a couple more OSU freshman sealing the deal on Wednesday. Freshman defensive lineman Darrion Henry joined the fray, and that was followed up by tight end Joe Royer out of Cincinnati Edler High School. It’s now growing into an impressive list.
The 6-foot, 5-inch, 225-pound Royer was rated as a three-star prospect as the No. 14 rated tight end in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Royer may not have been the most sought-after tight end in the recruiting cycle last year, but Ohio State has been historically good and having an eye for talent at the position. He chose the Buckeyes over programs like Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State.
“I just wanna say thank you to my parents and everyone back home,” Royer said. “And you guys for welcoming me in this summer, coach Mick (Mickey Marotti) and his staff. Go Bucks!”
