Freshman defensive end Jack Sawyer loses his black stripe

The hits just keep coming early on during Ohio State’s spring drills. We’ve already seen three players officially become a part of the program by shedding their black stripes so far. The latest of those is one of the biggest and most hyped prospects OSU signed in its 2021 class, five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer.

At 6-foot, 5-inches, and 248-pounds, Sawyer is a man among boys and already at Ohio State take classes and participating in pigskin-related activities on the banks of the Olentangy as an early enrollee. He should still be thinking about high school prom, but instead is getting a jump on what he hopes to be an outstanding career at OSU. He was rated as the No. 3 strongside defensive end and No. 4 overall prospect in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He’s clearly off to a great start judging by how early in his career he’s had the black stripe peeled off of his lid. The moment wasn’t lost on the Pickerington North product either.

“I just want to thank all the coaches, all the older guys for accepting me when I came in here,” Sawyer said. “Happy to be a part of the brotherhood. Go Bucks.”

You can watch the brief little ceremony below thanks to the video shared by the Ohio State Football Twitter account.

Ohio State will continue its spring drills with it all culminating with the annual spring game on April 17 at Noon.
