Fresh weather warning for ice issued in the North East as temperatures plummet

The North East is set for further disruption after the Met Office issued a weather warning for ice.

The yellow warning covering western parts of the region will be in force from 8pm on Monday to 10am on Tuesday.

Forecasters have warned that roads and public transport could see more disruption with icy patches causing hazardous conditions.

Some roads and railways could be affected, meaning longer journey times, and there will be an increase chance of injuries and accidents.

The warning was issued after large parts of the North East were disrupted by snow, with more than 100 schools closed in the region.

Dan Suri, chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: “This low-pressure system will bring a lot of moisture into contact with the relatively cold air across the northern half of the UK.

"This brings wintry conditions to an extending from East Yorkshire to North Lancashire across into Northern Ireland and northwards Scotland.”
