Fresh twist in transfer race for striker linked with Nottingham Forest

Dutch striker Sydney van Hooijdonk is now said to be a transfer target for FC Emmen.

The Eredivisie side see the 20-year-old as an "interesting option" as they look to bolster their attack, reports Voetbal International.

Nottingham Forest have also been linked with van Hooijdonk, who has hinted a January move could be on the cards.

He has been in red-hot form for NAC Breda in the Dutch Eerste Divisie so far this season, with eight goals.

Garry Birtles and Gregor Robertson debate how Nottingham Forest have been run

But he has started his team’s last two games on the bench, and was only brought on in the 89th minute of their most recent match last weekend.

NAC Breda boss Maurice Steijn insists there is no issue with the striker.

“Afterwards you can discuss whether it is smart to bring it in in the 89th minute. It causes a lot of commotion," said Steijn.

"What I find most annoying are the innuendo.

"I said to Sydney, 'Whatever everyone thinks, that switch was not to humiliate you'. It was nothing to do for me, it was a bit unfortunate.

"I talked about it with Sydney this week. Shake hands and we will continue."
