Midfielder Ravel Morrison, who has been linked with Nottingham Forest, has responded to suggestions he failed a medical at Turkish club Hatayspor.
Reports have claimed the Reds have been eyeing up the 27-year-old, with arch-rivals Derby County and Huddersfield Town also said to be keen.
The former Manchester United, West Ham and Lazio man is a free agent, after his contract with Dutch club ADO Den Haag was terminated by mutual agreement earlier this month.
Hatayspor confirmed on Twitter this week a player had failed a medical, saying: "Our new transfer, which the public is waiting for, came to Istanbul the other day.
"The agreement was abandoned because the player could not pass the routine health check. It is respectfully announced to the public."
Sporx responded to the tweet, suggesting the player involved was Morrison.
But Morrison hit back saying he never went to Istanbul, never failed a medical or had a transfer agreement with Hatayspor.
Football Insider have previously said Morrison was set to train with a club in England, in a bid to keep up his fitness.
Forest strengthened their midfield options earlier this week, when Filip Krovinovic became their first January addition, joining on loan from Benfica.
The Reds have also extended the loan of winger Anthony Knockaert, from Fulham, during this transfer window.
