Fresh transfer claim emerges as Nottingham Forest star delivers verdict

Grosicki again

Nottingham Forest made Kamil Grosicki a "serious proposal" in a bid to lure the West Brom winger to the City Ground in a late transfer deal, it has been claimed.

According to Sport Inertia, the Reds had been eager to tie up a deal for the Poland international having seen a move fall through for the ex-Hull wideman last October.

They say Forest had been waiting for an answer to their offer of a move to the City Ground, but it is claimed the winger did not respond in time as he missed out on a deadline day exit from the Baggies.

Ligue One Dijon had made an approach to sign the winger, but a switch did not materialise and he is now expected to move to Legia Warsaw with the Polish window open until February 24.

Interia reported: "In the last days of the transfer window, Grosicki had some interesting offers.

"Its representatives were contacted by Fatih Karagümrük (Artur Sobiech plays there on a daily basis), Alanyaspor (Damian Kądzior performs there), Trabzonspor and Schalke Gelsenkirchen.

"The most serious proposal came from Nottingham Forest, whose owner had been hunting Grosicki for six months. Still on Monday, he waited for an answer. This, however, did not come."

GARIBALDI RED: Who will be relegated from the Championship this season?

Colback admission

Jack Colback has admitted Nottingham Forest have "not been good enough" this season and says the players have to take responsibility for their struggles.

The former Newcastle midfielder made his long-awaited return from injury against Coventry in midweek coming on as a second half sub as the Reds sealed a 2-1 win.

That victory took them up to 19th in the table ahead of their trip to Wycombe in a campaign when they were expected to be challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

But despite a lavish spending spree last summer, which saw the Reds make a number of high-profile captures, they find themselves at the wrong end of the Championship table.

And Colback pulled no punches in his assessment of the problems at the City Ground this season which saw the club appoint Chris Hughton as Sabri Lamouchi's successor just four games into the campaign.

“We know this season we’ve not been good enough," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

Gazza's Keane story

Paul Gascoigne has revealed how he played mind games with Nottingham Forest legend Roy Keane during a clash between Spurs and the Reds.

The England legend faced off against Keane who had burst onto the scene at the City Ground where he went on to be a huge success which eventually landed him a switch to Manchester United.

And he revealed how had tried to wind up the tough-talking Irishman in a bid to put him off his stride as the pair went head to head.

Speaking on the trailer for his appearance on Anything Goes With James English, Gascoigne said: “I remember Roy Keane once, I just used to talk to him all the time.

“I remember going down the tunnel and I said: ‘Roy, you reckon you’re the new kid on the block? Welcome to your worst nightmare.’

Jephcott was a wanted man

Plymouth Argyle admit there were inquiries for reported Nottingham Forest target Luke Jephcott in the January transfer window.

But the Pilgrims’ boss Ryan Lowe “stamped on” the speculation early on, determined to keep hold of the club’s 16-goal top scorer.

He confirmed there had been ‘a few inquiries’ about the 21-year-old striker but that they went no further than that.

Argyle were under no financial pressure to consider selling Jephcott and Lowe made it clear that clubs would be wasting their time in making offers.

Lowe and Jephcott were also in agreement that the Pilgrims’ academy graduate would not move on in January either.

Chris Hughton’s recruitment department have been “keeping an eye on” the talented Argyle forward, according to The Athletic, after he made the deadlines with 12 goals in 14 starts and three sub appearances in League One.
