Fresh speculation emerges over January move for Nottingham Forest striker

Fresh speculation has emerged linking striker Miguel Angel Guerrero with a departure from Nottingham Forest in January.

The summer signing is said to be in the thinking of former club Sporting Gijon, where he spent five years earlier in his career.

Reports in Spain claim the second division side see Guerrero as a potential option to replace fellow forward Alvaro Vazquez if he departs - and they would look to bring him in on loan.

The 30-year-old signed a one-year deal, with the option for a further 12 months beyond that, when he joined the Reds from fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned outfit Olympiacos in September.

But he has made just nine appearances since his switch, with the majority of those coming from off the bench.

The last time he made it on to the pitch was in the home defeat to Brentford earlier this month.

Last week, reports emerged claiming Guerrero was on the radar of Greek side Aris Thessanoliki.

Asked about those rumours, Forest boss Chris Hughton said at the time: “I’ve only just been made aware of some speculation.

“The best way to put it is, with the squad we’ve got and the numbers we’ve got in the squad, there is serious consideration going into those who are more likely to play more minutes than others.

“We will be looking to get some players out on loan.

“As regards who those individuals are, we never say anything until something happens as it’s unfair on those players and, probably at this moment, we’re not quite sure who they will be.

“But there has to be some balance in that squad.”
