Fresh off presidential campaign trail, Sen. Cory Booker's girlfriend Rosario Dawson books leading role for DC Comics' 'DMZ' pilot

Now that she's off the presidential campaign trail with her boyfriend Senator Cory Booker, Rosario Dawson is getting back to the business we know and love her for.

The former "Luke Cage" actress is making an official jump from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe with her latest gig.

Dawson has been cast as the lead in the upcoming HBO Max pilot "DMZ," an HBO rep confirmed to The Daily News.

The potential series, based on the DC comic books of the same title, is described as an American Civil War drama set in the future. The series will follow Alma Ortego, a New York medic played by Dawson who, in addition to saving lives in the war-torn city, is desperately searching for her lost son. She eventually becomes an unlikely source of hope in America.

Production on "DMZ" is expected to start soon, with Roberto Patino serving as the showrunner.

This is the latest project for the actress _ whose mother Isabel Celeste, is a writer and singer of Cuban and Puerto Rican ancestry. Dawson will star in the Sam Esmail-produced USA Network anthology series "Briarpatch" in February.
