Fresh, modern and a good idea - Readers react as new designs for Nottingham central library revealed
pNew designs showing how Nottinghamapos;s new central library will look inside have left people quot;optimisticquot; about the upcoming development./p
p Central Library is currently located on Angel Row, a short walk from the Council House, but the city council plans to move it to the new a href=https://www.nottinghampost.com/all-about/broadmarsh-centre data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=section-topicBroadmarsh/a car park and bus station, which is currently being built. /p
pIt is hoped the new facility will a href=https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/first-pictures-new-library-re-3759779#comments-section data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=sectionbe #x2018;the best children#x2019;s library in the country#x2019;./a/p
pThe designs currently include a large children#x2019;s area downstairs, complete with #x2018;sensory play cavesapos; and an immersive storytelling room./p
pThere will be quieter adult areas upstairs, including the local a href=https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/history/ data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=sectionhistory/a section, as well as study areas, a cafe, public computers and space for pop-up exhibitions./p

pNottinghamshire Live showed people the proposed designs and asked their reaction - with the general consensus that it will be a quot;well-usedquot; and quot;appreciatedquot; facility for the city./p
pquot;I like the look of it, it is fresh, modern and a good idea, quot; said Andrew Felton, of Wollaton./p
pThe 53-year-old added: quot; The current a href=https://www.nottinghampost.com/all-about/education data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=section-topiclibrary/a on Angel Row is tired-looking and does not have the best facilities./p
pquot;I like the fact they are bringing in new IT and I think the designs will go down well and well-used generally.quot;/p
pAmy Fletcher, 29, who is training to become a solicitor and lives in Bingham, added: quot;I am optimistic after seeing the designs./p
pquot;I like the ambition behind it. Nottingham needs more of that. I hope it lives up to it. /p

pquot;I am interested to see how it all turns out - thatapos;s including the Broadmarsh revamp./p
pquot;Itapos;s good they are aiming it at kids, more of them need to be aware of libraries and the benefits they can have.quot;/p
pDorine Anderson, 72, of Bobbers Mill, said: quot;I appreciate what they are trying to do with it. I hope it is a busy place./p
pquot;Thereapos;s a lot of work going on. I have seen the city change a lot, especially over the last few years.quot;/p
pCouncillor David Mellen is the leader of the a href=https://www.nottinghampost.com/all-about/nottingham-city-council data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=section-topiccouncil/a, and represents the Dales ward for Labour./p
pa href=https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/first-pictures-new-library-re-3759779#comments-section data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=sectionSpeaking at the unveiling of the designs he said/a: #x201C;Libraries are something that people take to their hearts in Nottingham, and I think it#x2019;s a result of our policy of not saying #x2018;we#x2019;re going to have one big library in the city centre and no others#x2019;./p
p#x201C;In my own ward, Dales, we#x2019;ve got a fantastic library. If you go to Aspley, what an amazing space for kids in one of the most deprived areas of the city./p
p#x201C;I think people will be expectant about this new central library because of what they#x2019;ve seen in their local libraries./p
p#x201C;I also think they#x2019;re a really important part of society. In a world where there are lots of figures about loneliness, people#x2019;s ability to go and sit in their library, read the paper and see some familiar faces is a real asset to the wellbeing of people.#x201D;/p
pContractors are on site at the car park area and work is now under way to create the new intu Broadmarsh shopping centre, scheduled for completion in 2021./p
