Having been in showbiz for many years, the beautiful model and actress Pattarasaya Yongrattanamongkol (Mint) will be a familiar face to many. She is probably best known for her appearances in the videos for popular artists such as Da Endorphine, Potato, Jetset’er and Lula. In fact, she has been in so many that she is affectionately known as the Queen of Music Videos.
Now after years of being the face of the music, she is finally ready to be the voice as well. Signed to GMM Grammy’s White Music label, Mint has just released her debut single “Pob Ther Gonn (If I Had Met You First).” The sweet and gentle synth-pop ballad, written by the popular singer-songwriter Atom Chanakan, proves that the 24-year-old has what it takes to be a pop star.
Mint was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to visit us at S Weekly and talk about her music and inspirations.

Can you tell us about the new single?
Mint: “If I Had Met You First” is my first official song. It’s an electro-pop tune written by my friend and label mate Atom. I gave him the idea for the song.
Is it based on your own experience?
Mint: Yes, but not entirely. It’s about how a girl feels about her past relationships. She’s cold and emotionally numb because of her experiences. But when she meets somebody new, she realises how much she has changed. If she’d met him before, she wouldn’t have become the person she is today.
Why did you choose to debut with a slow song?
Mint: I know a lot of other artists would pick something upbeat, but I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to do something that reflected the way I was feeling. I hope that people who feel the same way can relate to it.
How do you feel about being referred to as the Queen of Music Videos?
Mint: I don’t know, it’s kind of cute I guess. [Laughs.] But it’s true though. I’ve been in a total of 24 music videos so far. And that’s not including my own!

Did you already have a good relationship with GMM Grammy before you got a record deal?
Mint: Definitely. I was an intern artist with them many years ago. But I didn’t get the chance to release any music back then. After I passed an audition to be in one of Da Endorphine’s videos, I decided to focus on modelling. So my music career was put on hold until now.
Are you the first female singer on White Music?
Mint: No, I’m actually the second. The first is Lula and I’m so proud to be on the same label as her. She’s one of my favourite Thai female singers. I love her songs and voice so much. I was in her video for “Rueng Thee Kor (What I Have Asked),” which I believe has had more than a hundred million views on YouTube. Isn’t that amazing?
Is the electronic sound of “If I Had Met You First” an indication of your future musical direction?
Mint: I think so. I just love how it sounds. We are in the process of making the next single at the moment. It’ll sound more adventurous and upbeat than the first one. We’re hoping to release it before the end of the year.
