It's Monday morning. While your mind is readjusting to the work week, we suggest you surf the Internet and read about/listen to some music by following these links specially selected for you by the GUM team. Contrary to what your boss says, this will increase your productivity by 34%.*
· First off, did you know the Boomtown Rats song I Don't Like Mondays was inspired by a a school shooting? Not an urban legend.
· We found this Slate article about the peculiar pleasure of earplugs very interesting. We found the fact that you can listen to the article about earplugs as an mp3, however, fairly ironic.
· Wait, is that actually irony? Having learned the concept from Alanis Morissette, we're a little fuzzy on what it actually is. This comedian sets us and Alanis straight. Funny AND educational!
· Haven't had enough album covers yet? Head down to this exhibition at the Bankside gallery from April 20 - May 20th 2007. Artists Stanley Donwood (Radiohead), Reggie Pedro (Gomez) and design team Jason Kedgley and Simon Taylor (Underworld) will all be on display.
· Ten seconds of Jose Gonzalez's Heartbeats in last week's podcast wasn't enough for us. We had to listen to the full song on repeat at his MySpace page to satisfy ourselves.
· Foals are hot. The band, silly! This ain't Equus.
· Check out the brand-spanking-new Simian Mobile Disco video for their single It's the Beat.
· Fantastic reminder for the directional-haircut, new-rave London crowd not to take themselves too seriously
· Shamelessly ripped off from Stereogum and via the awesome Hype Machine, it's a new track from Sufjan Stevens - a Joni Mitchell cover no less.
