Fresh Kalvin Phillips transfer rumours less than three days after the window closed

The transfer window has been shut for a grand total of three days, but the national media are still linking Kalvin Phillips with a move away from Leeds United.

The Whites were relieved to see Thursday’s 5pm deadline pass with their star asset still at the club after months of speculation.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa, with Tottenham Hotspur also credited with an interest.

The Whites parted ways with Jack Clarke, Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson this summer, accumulating around £22m to ease any Financial Fair Play concerns.

Those sales helped the club's hierarchy stick to their guns and hold on to Phillips, despite Premier League interest.

The academy graduate is in talks with the club to extend his deal at Elland Road, which expires at the end of 2020/21 season.

However, that hasn’t stopped the national media speculating over his future.

The Sun on Sunday have reported Wolverhampton Wanderers will step up their pursuit for Phillips, despite United's attempts to keep hold of him with a £30m price tag.

The paper reports Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are at the front of the queue for his services, despite the transfer window only just closing.

The report claims Wolves are keen to bring Phillips to Molineux in January, hoping his valuation will have dropped.

Santo is looking for more options in midfield with the club having to cope with a Europa League campaign, on top of their Premier League commitments.

While it’s clear Phillips has ambitions to play in the top flight, the midfielder has made no attempt to force a move away from the club, instead opting to help Leeds achieve their ambition of earning promotion.

Should the Whites fail to earn promotion this season, there is a very realistic chance Phillips could leave, if he continues in his current vein of form.

However, certainly for this season, he remains a huge part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for promotion and it is therefore hard to see him being anything other than a Leeds United player.
