Fresh interest in Nottingham Forest 'target' as future remains up in the air

Interest continues to grow in Nottingham Forest-linked striker Charlie Wyke as his contract comes to an end.

The Sunderland hot-shot, who finished as his side’s top scorer during the campaign just gone, is said to have a string of clubs chasing his signature - with another admirer now added to the list.

Along with the Reds, Championship rivals Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and Millwall are reportedly keen, as well as Scottish giants Celtic and Russian outfit CSKA Moscow.

And now the East Anglian Daily Times claim Ipswich Town “have shown interest” in the 28-year-old as his future remains up in the air.

Wyke helped fire the Black Cats into the League One play-offs this season with a 31-goal haul in all competitions, but their promotion dreams were shattered by Lincoln City in the semi-finals.

Sunderland subsequently released their retained list earlier this week, saying, “discussions continue to take place with Charlie Wyke over his future at the club”.

If no agreement is reached, the forward will become a free agent when his deal runs out this summer.

It is said none of those Championship sides linked with the former Bradford City man, including Forest, have yet made a formal approach for his services.

And the East Anglian Daily Times report Ipswich “are thought to be in a position to compete with clubs at Championship level in the market this summer”, with Wyke believed to be open to a move away from his native north east.

Boosting his team’s fire-power is a priority for Reds boss Chris Hughton during the transfer window, with a number of potential forward targets on his radar.
