New images have been issued by NSW police in an attempt to nab the killer of an underworld figure shot dead on a western Sydney street.

Amar Kettule was shot on William Street at Fairfield on January 10 and died at the scene.

The 34-year-old was well known to police. His younger brother Dyllan, 19, was shot dead outside his girlfriend's apartment block in Canley Vale in 2014.

NSW Police on Friday released footage of a dark-coloured Jeep Cherokee seen near the scene and later found burnt out in nearby Smithfield.

They have called for the public's help and will address media later on Friday.

Police at the time of the shooting said they would investigate the incident's links to organised crime, and alleged the attack was targeted.
