Fresh hope for Park Road post office after vital facility closes

Park Road's under-threat Post Office may yet be saved, bringing fresh hope for local residents who campaigned to stop its closure.

The Dingle Crown Post Office in Liverpool 8 is located inside the B&M store on Park Road, which closes this week and will be turned into a Lidl.

According to the councillor involved in coordinating the campaign against its closure, talks are currently underway to save the post office by opening it in the future Lidl store.

Dingle councillor Steve Munby told the ECHO: "My understanding is that Lidl are happy to have the post office and the Post Office are happy to operate a franchise in there."

Steve Munby said that it is unlikely the post office will have Crown services, however.

Steve said: "If we'd had a different government come in in December, we might be having a very different conversation about that"

It is understood the post office could return to the site in six months' time, following a refurbishment of the store to convert it to a Lidl.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said: "We are working with a number of interested parties to re-establish the Post Office as soon as possible."

Lidl have also been approached for comment.
