Police are searching for a man who they believe could help shine a light on an arson which spread to an adjoining factory and killed two sleeping workers.

The blaze started at a panel shop in what police believe was a targeted arson attack and quickly spread to the Sunshine North factory behind at 4am on February 23.

Two Sunshine North men, a 42-year-old and 48-year-old, were sleeping inside the factory and died at the scene.

Police on Wednesday released an image of a man they believe could help with the investigation and CCTV footage of a ute that was seen in the area immediately before and after the incident.

The white dual cab ute was seen pulling up outside the business on Bunnett Street about 3.51am before one man exited and emptied a jerry can on the panel shop door before setting it alight.

The man and his driver escape the scene as the building goes up in flames and later spreads to the factory behind.

The single-level factory was engulfed by the time firefighters arrived and it took three hours for about 50 firefighters to get the blaze under control.

CCTV footage captured the ute which has a silver tray travelling north along Bunnett Street.

Newly released footage on Wednesday shows the car on Albert Drive in Melton South about 35km away at 4.40am.

It was found burnt out about 20km in Coimadai at 5.20am on Feberuary 24.

Police released an image of a man who was seen near the car fire and believe he can help with inquiries.

Investigators are urging anyone who recognises the man, the car, were in the area at the time or has CCTV and dashcam footage to contact police.
