Fresh ferry fiasco on Arran as sailings are axed and boat withdrawn due to 'sewage issue'

Arran's ferry fiasco continued today with the announcement that another vessel was being removed.

The MV Caledonian Isles has been withdrawn from service after an issue with its sewage system was discovered.

With the boat now undergoing repairs, a number of sailings have been cancelled with operator CalMac saying it cannot sail due to "health and safety reasons."

CalMac sailings to the island and from Ardrossan have been dogged with issues during the service's peak summer season.

Earlier this week, more Covid issues on board one of the vessels saw crew having to be replaced and a number of sailings were axed.

CalMac have announced today that the following sailings have been cancelled:

Cancelled sailings

  • Departing Ardrossan: 12.30pm, 3.20pm.
  • Departing Brodick: 1.55pm, 4.40pm.

And CalMac say the 6pm sailing departing Ardrossan is liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.

A further update will be provided at approximately 3.30pm, bosses have said.

MV Isle of Arran will operate the following additional sailings:

Sailings operating

  • Departing Ardrossan – 4.40pm, 7.20pm.
  • Departing Brodick – 6pm.
