Fresh contract details emerge as Barcelona poised to land ex-Bolton Wanderers defender from Chelsea

Former Bolton Wanderers defender Marcos Alonso is anticpated to complete his move from Barcelona to Chelsea early next week and put pen to paper on an initial two-year-deal, according to reports.

The 31-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since 2017. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, Uefa Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at the club.

Alonso joined Wanderers in 2010 from Real Madrid. He went on to play 46 times and score five goals for the club over the next three seasons.

Despite a trophy-laden time at Chelsea, it appears Alonso's time at Stamford Bridge is poised to end and he is poised to join Spanish giants Barcelona. He has 29 goals and 211 appearances to his name since joining the London side in 2017.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that the final transfer fee the Stamford Bridge side will receive from the Catalan side will be less than €10m, which works out at £8.4m. The negotiations over the move are said to be in its last stages since last Friday and the move is poised to be completed soon.

Now, Spanish publication AS reports that Alonso is poised to be presented as a Barcelona player early next week. It is claimed he has also been pencilled in for his debut against Real Soceidad.

The former Bolton defender is set to sign an initial two-year-deal at the Camp Nou. There is the option for an additional 12 months.

Alonso moved to Italian side Fiorentina in the summer of 2013 as moved to the continent despite the offer of a new contract. He scored five goals in 84 games for the club before moving to Chelsea in 2017.

He spent the second half of the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Sunderland. He played 20 times for the Black Cats.
