Predicted final Championship league positions for Nottingham Forest, Leeds and West Brom

Nottingham Forest are gearing up for their next match in the Sky Bet Championship, as they face Leeds United this weekend.

The Reds take on their promotion rivals at the City Ground on Saturday, but will do so after suffering a setback in their previous outing.

Forest were beaten 2-1 by Birmingham City at St Andrew’s in their latest Championship clash, a result which ended their seven-game unbeaten run.

The defeat saw Forest drop to fourth place in the Championship table, and are now four points behind Leeds United in the automatic promotion places.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side will now gear up to face the Whites on Saturday, in what could be a vital game in the club’s bid to achieve promotion to the top flight.

With 30 league matches now played, respected statistics and analysis website FiveThirtyEight has forecast the final standings in the Championship this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors.

They have crunched the numbers and predicted that Forest will finish in fifth place at the end of the season, picking up 73 points, and finish in the Championship play-offs.

The prediction sees them finish eight points outside of the automatic promotion places, with Leeds and Brentford tipped to be playing Premier League football next season.

West Brom have been tipped to agonisingly miss out on automatic promotion, and finish in third place and only behind the Bees on goal difference.

Fulham are the team predicted to finish fourth, and would be the side that Forest face in the play-offs should this prediction come true.

Bristol City are the other club tipped to take the final play-off spot, with Preston North End, Millwall and Swansea City narrowly missing out.

The prediction has also handed Forest a 47% chance of finishing in the top six, and 17 % chance of getting promoted, and a 2% chance of winning the league.
