Fresh Championship prediction reveals Nottingham Forest's promotion fate

Nottingham Forest will believe that they can secure promotion to the Premier League this season.

The Reds are currently battling at the top end of the Sky Bet Championship table, with a host of other clubs striving to reach the top flight.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side are currently in fifth place in the league standings, four points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United occupy the top two spots, with Fulham, Brentford and Preston North End making up the rest of the play-off positions.

Forest have 13 league matches left to secure a place either in the play-offs, or automatic promotion via one of the top two spots.

Respected statistics and analysis website FiveThirtyEight has forecast the final standings in the Championship this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors.

They have crunched the numbers and predicted that Forest will finish in fifth place at the end of the season, picking up 73 points with a goal difference of plus-12.

West Brom and Leeds are the two clubs tipped for automatic promotion, while Fulham are predicted to finish fourth and would be Forest’s opponents in the play-offs.

Brentford (third) and Preston (sixth) are the other clubs who would face each other in the play-offs, should the prediction come true.

The prediction also hands Forest a 55% chance of finishing in the play-offs, 14% chance of being promoted, and a 1% chance of winning the league.
