Police today issued a new appeal over the murder of a man who died in hospital two years after being shot near a Travelodge hotel.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said a breakthrough could be achieved if loyalties had changed between those involved in the killing of Boluwatife Oyewunmi, a possible case of mistaken identity.

Mr Oyewunmi, 22, was gunned down on April 5, 2017 in Lincoln Road, Enfield.

He remained in a critical condition until he died on Thursday, July 11.

Police say the cause of death was recorded as cardiac arrest, pneumonia and brain injury caused by a gunshot wound.

DCI Considine said: “Two years is a long time and this has clearly been a very difficult period for Boluwatife’s family.

“Loyalties between those behind this shooting may have changed. Do you have information about those responsible?

“The investigation has been open since the incident happened and we continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward and speak to us.

“The shooting took place near a Travelodge hotel in Enfield. Were you staying there? Did you hear or see anything that could be of use to the investigation?”

Five men who were arrested in 2017 remain under investigation over the incident.

A police spokesman said: “One line of enquiry is that this is a case of mistaken identity.”
