Fresh and updated plans for Bolton's Makkah Mosque are back and it's hoped these changes will help get planning approval

Plans to rebuild a mosque which is currently based in a Victorian school building have been resubmitted.

The final details of the development, which involves knocking down Makkah Mosque’s current building in Great Lever to make way for a new three-storey structure, were revealed in January.

But the reserved matters application was withdrawn on the advice of planning officers at Bolton Council.

They recommended submitting a new application because some of the details which were approved in the outline plan last year had been significantly altered.

This includes an increase in the internal area to accommodate a security hut, meter room and bin store.

The proposed building has also been moved away from the site boundary by approximately one metre in the latest application and the vehicle entrance has been repositioned to align it with the main entrance to create a better traffic flow, according to David Cox Architects.

Makkah Mosque in Grecian Crescent will be completely rebuilt to meet the “growing” needs of the community.

The custom-built facility will have a new prayer hall, ablutions, community rooms and funeral services with a mezzanine, plant rooms and a roof garden on the top floor.
