Mikel Arteta could have one of his loan players back in the fray before the transfer window closes.
The Gunners have made two signings so far in the January transfer window, with Mat Ryan and Martin Odegaard arriving on loan form Brighton and Real Madrid respectively.
And they have seen a number of players leave, either permanently or on loan, as Mikel Arteta looks to freshen up his squad.
A batch of young players were sent out on loan during the summer transfer window, but Arteta could welcome one of them back into the fray before the transfer window closes on Monday.
That is because Swindon are hoping to complete a permanent signing before deadline day in the midfield area.
Matt Smith has been on loan with the Robins since the start of the season, having frequently been called up to first team training at Arsenal under Arteta before that.
The 20-year-old has played 27 games for the League One side this season, scoring once, but Robins boss John Sheridan has a decision to make when it comes to February 1.
Swindon are trying to sign a midfielder on a permanent deal before deadline day, and that could see Smith return to the Emirates early.
Sheridan told the Swindon Advertiser : "We’re in the process of trying to bring someone in to strengthen us and make sure we’re as strong as we can be in all areas. Possibly a striker, possibly another position.
“I’m not a lover of having to leave two loans out on a matchday. For me, that doesn’t sit comfortably, so that’s an area I want to try and address in the best way I can.
“So if it’s a striker or a midfielder, I’ll speak to Tyler Smith, I’ll speak to Jonny Smith or Matty Smith – it’s just a decision I’ve got to try and make."
