Great white sharks including 15ft monster weighing 600kg spotted off US coast

A group of great white sharks have showed up along the US coast - including a 15ft beast weighing more than 600kg.

New data from Ocearch, an organisation built to help scientists collect previously unattainable data in the ocean, shows 10 of the huge fish have emerged off the Carolina coast in recent weeks.

Researchers tag the sharks with GPS trackers which ping each time they surface and the latest was recorded at about 9am on Monday.

The shark named Brunswick is 8ft 9in and travelled more than 6,000 miles in 10 months, the Daily Star reports.

Another, called Murdoch, measures a huge 14ft 10in and weighs 601kg - the biggest to be registered.

Each year in Autumn and Spring the sharks regularly show up on the Carolina Coast during their migrations.

The coast from North Carolina to Florida is dubbed "a winter hot spot for large white sharks".

Ocearch founder Chris Fischer said the area off Cape Hatteras is “a staging area for migration”, Macon.com reports.
