Frenkie De Jong reveals how he will play alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona

Fresh off the back of winning the Eredevisie title with Ajax, Frenkie De Jong can't wait to link up with his new Barcelona team-mates.

The Dutch wonderkid will join some of the top stars in world football at the Camp Nou when he makes his long-awaited move which was agreed back in January.

But it is the chance to link up with Lionel Messi which represents a massive moment for the 22-year-old - and he's now given an insight into how he will deal with it.

De Jong has joked he will make Messi his first port of call whenever he gets the ball as he is set to be starstruck by his new iconic team-mate.

However, the highly-rated youngster insists he won't let the move affect his style of play as he looks to contribute to Barcelona's transition into a new era ahead of the time when they must move on from Messi.

"I'm very excited to see Messi during training," De Jong said.

"I think I'm only going to pass the ball to him!

"I'm not going to change how I am; it won't matter (the pressure) if I focus.

"I'm curious about how I'll perform there and I'm eager to learn from the best."

De Jong has always been vocal about his admiration of Messi, who reportedly played a part in tempting the Dutchman to the Nou Camp amid interest from top clubs around Europe.

In an interview with a Dutch magazine last summer, De Jong revealed: "We were on holiday in Spain and my grandad bought me a Messi shirt with the number '30' on the back, his shirt number at the time.

"My grandad knew that I liked Messi and I wore that shirt until it was too small for me.

"Of course I'd love to play with him. He's 31 now, so I better hurry up."
