Frenkie de Jong has already revealed his admiration for Arsenal amid fresh transfer update

Arsenal technical director Edu had a fairly busy summer transfer window.

The Brazilian added six new players to the Gunners' ranks, splashing out over £140million on Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale Takehiro Tomiyasu, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares.

Mikel Arteta's new signings have enjoyed a successful couple of months at their new club, avoiding defeat in each of their last ten outings across all competitions as they sit fifth in the current Premier League standings.

Despite their impressive form, Arsenal continue to be linked with a host of names ahead of the January transfer window, with the likes of Renato Sanches, Dejan Kulusevski and Dusan Vlahovic all mooted as potential targets.

Now, El Chiringuito have reported that Barcelona are open to selling central-midfielder Frenkie de Jong if the price is right, with new head coach Xavi reportedly keen to raise funds given the Blaugrana's difficult financial situation.

De Jong has established himself as one of Europe's most consistent midfielders in recent years and would likely cost a fortune, with Transfermarkt valuing him at £81million.

The Dutch international would also likely want to move to a club plying their trade in the UEFA Champions League, a competition that Arsenal have failed to qualify in each of the last five seasons.

However, the Gunners do have one advantage over prospective buyers given de Jong's admiration for the north London club.

Speaking to Voetbal International back in 2019, he said: "I actually thought Arsenal was pretty beautiful in the past.

"In my mind I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route

"But yes, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are also right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream."
