French title rival pokes the bear as Paro locks in

Liam Paro's French opponent has declared the Australian's last knockout "nothing special" ahead of the pair's high-stakes world title eliminator.

Queenslander Paro (26-1) will fill Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena on Thursday night, when the tennis venue becomes a boxing ring for the first time.

French veteran David Papot (30-0-1) says "everything's perfect" ahead of just his second professional bout outside France.

The pair, fighting at welterweight for a shot at the vacant IBF title, faced off on Monday.

Through a translator, Papot pointed out he'd fought in every continent as an amateur and that a parochial Brisbane home crowd didn't faze him.

And, shown footage during the press conference of former IBF super lightweight champion Paro's stoppage of Jonathan Navarro in June, the 34-year-old was unmoved.

"Nothing special," he said.

"I don't know a lot about Liam Paro, other than that he's a great fighter, former world champ, with quick hands.

"I'm a very complete fighter. I can go to war if necessary, I'm ready for everything.

"I've been fighting since I was five. Liam's in his hometown, he wants to shine, it's normal."

Paro feels comfortable ahead of his first fight at the heavier division as he chases a second world title and more domestic recognition after a career spent largely fighting overseas.

The Mackay talent, 29, is locked in and keen to throw his weight around in a division that features Manny Pacquiao and Ryan Garcia.

Where in the past Paro may have let his hair down, there was not even a celebratory beer after his emphatic catchweight defeat of Navarro in Cairns earlier this year.

"One hundred per cent, I've grown up," Paro said.

"It just happens ... with a young family and more on the table.

"The fun will always be there, but will be more fun with chips stacked in the bank and as a multiple world champion.

"And now we're in fight week it's, 'Eat, breath, sleep, shit boxing'."

Former super featherweight world title challenger Liam Wilson will take on Jorge Santana while Brock Jarvis and Paulo Aokuso are also on Thursday's undercard.
